Springdale High Hires Whatley As OC

Springdale High football coach Shane Patrick completed his coaching staff on Friday with the hiring of Mark Whatley, who’ll be the Red’Dogs offensive coordinator.

Whatley was previously the head coach at Jacksonville, where he went 23-31 in five seasons. Whatley will replace assistant coach Eli Drinkwitz, who recently resigned to join the offensive quality control staff at Auburn University.

Whatley’s career coaching record is 115-103-3.

Whatley, who has had previous coaching stints at Rison, Ashdown and Newport, led Rison to a state championship in 1990 and a 11-2 record. That season, Rison defeated Barton in the Class 1A State Championship, ending the Bears’ 63-game winning streak.
