Keeping your cool

Football players are not the only high school athletes suffering through the brutal early August heat. That being said, Preston Harmon remained one cool customer on Wednesday.
The Izard County junior came from four shots back with nine holes to play to win the Cougar Invitational at the Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend. Harmon rallied to catch Melbourne’s Bradley Lamb in regulation (at 148) and won in the second hole of a playoff.
The thermometer at the clubhouse read 102 degrees when the golfers teed off at 1 p.m. Harmon said he went through five bottles of Gatorade and two bottles of water during his round, which honestly doesn’t sound like a lot on a harsh day like Wednesday.
He also said he stayed in the shade as much as possible, but he tried not to place his ball there. Hitting too many trees can make for some horrible scores.
Remaining cool in this weather is tough enough and that makes Harmon’s final nine-hole score of 3-under 33 a remarkable effort.
Stay thirsty my friends.

I think getting a bucket full of ice water dumped on you is great incentive to win in this heat. But I guess they don’t do that in civilized golf.
