The final rushing stats for Bentonville sophomore running back Tearris Wallace during Friday’s scrimmage aren’t that eye-catching: just four carries for 18 yards.
However, Wallace’s story is not one to be denied.
He didn’t start playing football until he was in the eighth grade. His freshman season was cut short by a knee injury, but he went through vigorous rehabilitation in order to return this fall.
His speed — he finished second in the 100-meter dash last spring — hasn’t gone unnoticed. It’s enough that Tigers coach Barry Lunney is giving him the opportunity to earn some playing time in the backfield.
If he continues to progress, Wallace could become another formidable weapon in Bentonville’s arsenal.
