Bentonville Begins Thinking Spring

The calendar may say otherwise, but spring officially arrived — in a sports sense — at Bentonville High School at approximately 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

That was about the time the final buzzer sounded at Rogers Heritage, and Bentonville’s boys basketball season ended with its loss to Little Rock Hall in the Class 7A State Tournament.

And just like that, the attention now shifts to the outdoors. Granted, soccer had an early jump on the other sports with matches earlier in the week, but the others won’t waste any time in following suit.

Bentonville begins its baseball season today in Alma, and softball will do likewise Friday. Track will wait until next week before getting started with the Joe Martin Relays in Springdale.

It’s enough to keep a sports enthusiast busy for the next two months or so, as long as Mother Nature cooperates. The weather will have its way from time to time, and that’s OK. Just give these teams a little time here and there to get in their games, and everybody is content.

What will these seasons behold for each team in these sports? Well, that’s like predicting the weather during spring, and Arkansas makes that even more challenging.

But I will promise one thing: if the weather is good, then it won’t be boring.
