It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but Fayetteville boys’ basketball coach Kyle Adams was more than happy with the victory Saturday at the Arkansas Hoops Challenge when considering the Purple’Dogs opponent.
Fayetteville avenged its only loss of the 2011-12 season to date Saturday with a 42-33 win against Class 6A Jonesboro at the Hoops Challenge. the victory came just one week after the Hurricane had defeated the Bulldogs, 48-38 in the finals of the Wampus Cat Invitational in Conway.
“I was very pleased with the win,” Adams said. “We played very hard. Kile Graves guarded his tail off. He and Manuale Watkins did a great job out front and I think our size helped us in the end.”
Both teams struggled mightily from the field in the first half and settled into a 13-13 tie at intermission before Fayetteville (8-1) finally began to find its touch in the second half.
“Both teams defended pretty well, but neither of us could make very many shots,” Adams said. “We finally did a pretty good job on offense in the second half.”
Watkins finished with nine points to lead the Bulldogs, who are off until Dec. 28 when they open play in the Jefferson City, Mo. Holiday Tournament against host Jefferson City.
